MONDAY JANUARY 21ST 2013

Good Morning...It's King Ol' man winter this morning because he has given us the MINUS TOUCH...IT'S ABOUT MINUS 17...or 0 on the old F scale...and we have about 4" of snow on the ground. Looking at this date in 1982 Darryl Sittler was getting the number 9 in Philadelphia after being traded the day before in one of Punch Imlach's worst moves. Imlach was good in the 60's but completely lost it in the early 80's. Singer Jackie Wilson died in 1984 after being in a Coma for 8 years...The guy could just flat out sing anything. Richie Havens was born on this date in 1941...as was Bob Smith (Wolfman Jack) 75 years ago today. Patsy Cline won an Arthur Godfrey Talent Scout contest singing "Walkin' After Midnight" in 1957 and before long it was tearing up both the Country and Pop Charts. The first Newfoundland Readers Digest came out with the popular feature "Towards More Picturesque SCREECH"...(just kidding) and Jim Henson created KERMIT "THE" FROG...while muttering DARN THAT SOCK! Back in 1986 we had some rain with a +2 C temp at 5 am...Gas at the pump was 48.9 cents/litre and the #1 song was "Thats what Friends are For" with a group including Elton John, Gladys Knight and Stevie Wonder. "In good times, in bad times, I'll be on your side forevermore, that's what friends are for". It was her only Number 1 song along with the Spinners "then Came You"..despite all the great songs she did. Rocky 4 was playing at the movie theatres. and finally...Have you heard any good jokes lately...Heard a Whopper at Burger King. Mornin' everbody...Mornin'
