It's been an interesting day in history. In 1796 the CAPITAL of Upper CANADA was transferred from Newark (Niagara-on-the-Lake) to York (Toronto) York of course was well-known for it's Pee Wee baseball teams. They were better known as "THE YORK PEANUT BATTERS".
In 1799 Ile. St. Jean was given Royal assent to change it's name to Prince Edward Island. In 1855 Money Orders were introduced in Canada.

The year was 1949 when RCA unveiled the first 45 RPM record player which went on to great success in the late 50's and 60's before it met it's Vinyl resting place. (although there are still lots around). My first purchase was "Pink Shoe Laces" by Dodie Stevens I am afraid, even though my parents had purchased the Chipmunks "Christmas Song" a few years earlier. In 1984 a General Tire Strike was just wrapping up in Barrie on this date.

Tomorrow of course is "Groundhog Day"....The big Two I guess, are Phil in the U.S and "Wireton Willie but there are a few smaller one's such as our own ORR Lake" Orley" and Elmvale "Elvis"...but the really well-known one is "ANGUS ANGUS"...when he sees his shadow it means "6 more weeks of eating Haggis" and finally...my poem for the day....
