Most of the schools buses were cancelled that day. On this date in 1841 the union of Upper and Lower Canada became effective, although even today I'm not sure it is all that effective at times.
In 1788 Sir Robert Peel was born. He later became a British Prime Minister and founder in 1829 of London's Metro Police Force called "Bobbies" or Peelers in his honour , although I'm not too sure the name Peelers caught on. That has different connotations over here. In 1971 Apollo 14 Astronauts, Shepard and Mitchell touched down on the Moon (the 3rd Lunar Landing). They gathered some moon rocks and Shepard even played a little golf. who was the 3rd on the mission? He didn't get to do the Moonwalk and it wasn't Michael Jackson. I think I remember...of course I have a great memory from taking the Dave Carnegie memory course....by the way Andres Cassagnes died January 16th in Paris at age 86. He was the inventor of the "Etch-a-Sketch". When they turned him upside down and shook Him...he disappeared .
Famous and infamous folks born on this date...Hank Aaron 79 years ago..Cristiano Rinaldo is 28, Roberto Alamar is 45. Laura Linney is 49 and The Hockey Mouth that roars Don Cherry is 79 years old today.
(his Latin name is "Plaidius Maximus")...many happy returns Don...by the way his cake had to be called back for Icing. Don of course played for the Barrie Flyers from 51 to 1954...
And Finally...
It was on this dage in 1980...The Leafs called up Jiri CRHA(SEER HAW) to play goal for them...with the song Doris Day tune "Play Crha..Crha..whatever will be...will be...
Mornin' everybody...mornin'
