FRIDAY APRIL 19TH, 2013

HI ho hi ho..'tis off to the week-end we go.   We certainly had a lot of rain last night but a really nice afternoon until the storm came back.  We were still looking for some nice spring weather in 1983 TO NO AVAIL, but it was very nice in 1992.  It was Easter Sunday and we topped off with a lovely day of weather.  Back in 1991 the Jays had 6 wins and 4 losses while right now they are a disappointing 6 and 9. The Leafs are also looking like they may not get to the play-offs with some ordinary hockey while in 5th place but a couple or 3 teams could pass them easily and make it 9 years in a row with no post season Play.

In 1667 Cardinal Richelieu signed the Charter of "the Company of 100 Associates to help develop Canada.n 1775 saw the American Revolutionary War ( Including the Shot that was heard round the World) Don't Americans love to Glorify their events.

In 1882 Charles Darwin died.  His theory simplified :

As many more individuals of each species are born than can possibly survive; and as, consequently, there is a frequently recurring struggle for existence, it follows that any being, if it vary however slightly in any manner profitable to itself, under the complex and sometimes varying conditions of life, will have a better chance of surviving, and thus be naturally selected. From the strong principle of inheritance, any selected variety will tend to propagate its new and modified form.

Many thought it was a Bunch of Monkey Business.

The First RUNNING Automobile was built in the U.S. 121 years ago.

George Ellis with his 1892 Automobile in Wisconsin. According to documentation filed with the photograph, Ellis claimed that he successfully ran his automobile on February 28, 1892. Automobile is in the  McCormick Museum
Wisconsin Historical Society. He was wheely proud
of this baby.

In 1904, a Huge fire raged through downtown Toronto causing millions of dollars in damage and destroying 104 buildings in it's path.  Luckily there were NO Deaths, but it left 14 acres of the city's business core in ice-covered ruins. "standing at the corner of Front and Bay Streets," writes a Globe reporter "one begins to realize the extent of the awful destruction that has been wrought" . This is a picture of the city rebuilt from 1910

In 1910 Halley's Comet was seen by the naked eye in Curacao at least that was the"Talk Around the Clock"

It was last seen in 1986 and will not be seen again until mid-2061 It was named after English Astronomer Edmond Halley but his name was spelled and pronounced in so many different ways It is uncertain what the proper pronunciation is actually unkown so if you want to name it after the group Bill Hailey and the Comets, go for it.
In 1934 Shirley Temple appeared in her first movie on this date.  It was called "STAND UP AND CHEER".
IN 1960, baseball Uni's started displaying the names of the players on the back of their uniforms which was a big help for those who wanted to yell out....."hey Trew you're a Bum...I've seen better batters from Aunt Jemina.
It was 20 years ago on this date the 51 day seige at the Branch Dividian compound near Waco Texas ended in a fire that cremated Waco Wacko David Koresh and his followers.

AND FINALLY......a friend's husband has decided that, at the ripe old age of 48, he needed to get into shape. They went to the gym where a trainer asked him if he could do the splits. 'Of course I can't', he answered. 'How flexible are you?' she asked. To which he replied 'Well, I can't do Tuesdays.'
