THURSDAY APRIL 4TH, 2013

HELLO THERE...how's your Thursday going so far.  I have one coffee into me so I guess I should get started.  Looks like a much warmer day coming up (anything is better than that Batten Down the Hatches day yesterday and the day before that) It looks like it's going to be wet though.  Back in 1975 We had a real "snow-down with old man winter", with 2 feet of snow and lots of school and road closings. 30 years ago it was mostly cloudy with no snow. It's blue sky and minus 6 here this morning.

MAGICAL HISTORY TOUR

Our first Nugget on the tour today occurred  in 1858 a Gold Rush started in B.C. in the Fraser River area.
129 years ago Canada's Population charted at 4,325,000 people.
In 1893 Queen's Park opened on what had been the site of a lunatic asylum and as the official opening started a window blew out and it caused a big bang instead of the whimper there now.
Women in B.C. were given the vote in B.C. in 1917.
In 1932, Vitamin C was discovered by Professor C.G. King of Pittsburgh University..Thanks for the sunshine.
Here's a strange one from 1957, where the Canadian ambassador to Egypt committed suicide on this date.  He apparently had been hounded by a U.S. Anti-Communist Senate Committee and the RCMP. He was later completely exonerated. (too Late of course) He was supposed to be a good friend of Lester B, Pearson but he had been of member of a group when he was young.
That's the second case of Bullying I have discovered in the last 2 weeks from the U.S. The other Being the Alaska border where they Bullied their way into changing the Alaska Border.  Nice friends they turned out to be.  I guess I'll now be added to the 'NO FLY' list into the U.S. :). (Sorry for getting political)
In 1964, The Beatles had 5 out of the top 10 spots on Billboard.  In Canada we had 9 out of the top 10.

It was a shocking and sad day in 1968 on this date when Martin Luther King was assassinated in Memphis by James Earl Ray. This is a picture of King in AUGUST of 1963, when he made the "I have a dream" speech, one of the most beloved Speeches ever made by one of the most beloved People of all time. I guess part of that dream has come true with a Black President being elected and re-elected in the last few years.

In 1969, NBC cancelled "Star Trek".  Captain Kirk, Spock and Uhura. They even told Chekov to Check- Out. However they did return and return and return....
