TUESDAY APRIL 9TH, 2013

"A FOGGY DAY IN ORR LAKE TOWN" I can't see the other side of the lake but it's because of the fog, not the snow which is very positive and most of the ice is gone at least on our end of the lake.  I haven't checked the other end yet.  In 1985 we had received a bit of fresh snow every morning for 7 days which was quite annoying because we had quite a bit of snow still on the ground. Inflation was at 3.7%, Gold was at $325 per ounce and the movie "Witness" was showing at the cinema.

MAGICAL HISTORY TOUR FOR THE 9TH OF APRIL.

In 1799, Dr. Humphrey Davy first suggested Nitrous Oxide be used for an anesthetic and every one LAUGHED.
In 1865, General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Ulysses Grant which ended the American Civil War (did it really ever end?).
In 1869 Shareholders of HBC accepted terms of the Ruperts Land Act and the territory was ceded to Canada.
The Titanic left Queenstown Ireland for it's Ill-fated trip to New York in 1912 on this date. It led to the expression "Ice guys finish Last"
In 1917 Mostly Canadian troops stormed Vimy Ridge on Easter Monday of that year.  4000 Canadians were killed and 6,000 were injured taking that battle where the French and British had failed earlier.

The Canadian Vimy Memorial in France unveiled on July 1936

In 1928 Mae West made her debut on Broadway in the production of "Diamond Lil" after which she went skiing and said..."why don't you  come up and Ski me sometime.

The year was 1945 when NFL officials decreed that it was mandatory for Football players to wear SOCKS in all league games.  Not better helmets or shoulder pads or other pads...but Socks.  it became known as Sockey night in the U.S.A.
In 1950 Bob Hope made his first TV appearance on "Star Spangled Review" on NBC.
It was announced that Patrick Duffy's character on "Dallas"would return after being killed off. That was in 1986 and the question was "what will they Dream up to bring him back..." that was the answer.  It had been just a dream.

In 2005 Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles got married....so I guess "the 7 year itch" period is over.
