MAGICAL HISTORY TOUR FOR TODAY.
In 1814, Napoleon stepped down in France and was banished to the Island of Elba. I guess he stopped dressing and that's where the expression "Out at the Elba's" came from, but he did have plenty of Elba Room.
In 1890 Joseph Merrick (Changed to John for the movie) who became known as "the Elephant Man" because of his disfiguring diseases died in London England. There was a movie made in 1980 starring John Hurt, Anthony Hopkins, Anne Bancroft, Wendy Hiller and Sir John Giegud. The Picture was shot in black and white and was nominated for 8 Academy Awards but won None. "Ordinary People" won for Best Picture that year.
In 1906, Einstein introduced the Theory of Relativity (which means the more money you have, increases the number of People at the reading of your Will.):)
The Detroit Red Wings defeated the Maple Leafs 3 games to 1 in the 1936 Stanley Cup Final.
Jackie Robinson became the first Black Man to to play in the Majors in 1947. It was an exhibition game with him playing 1st base for the Brooklyn Dodgers against the New York Yankees 66 years ago. There is a movie coming out this week called "42" featuring that story.
Still with Baseball the New York Mets made a losing debut on this day in 1962.
Jack Nicklaus won a couple of Masters Golf Championships on this date in 1965 and 1966. He ended up winning 6 Green Coats which is still the record. He won his first in 1963 so this years is the 50th Anniversary of his first win at the masters. Tiger goes for number 5 this week.
In 2012 The North Korean Workers Party named Kin Jong Un, FIRST SECRETARY with his father as the party's "Eternal" General Secretary. Unfortunately he wasn't Eternal and we have GRAND DUFFAS,
THE YOUNGER, making all sorts of War Noises these days.
