FRIDAY MAY 17TH, 2013

Time to kick another Friday into gear only this time it's the May 24th Week-end although it's only the 17th which seems kind of Odd and awfully early this year.  It seems like only a couple of weeks ago we were having snow (Oh wait it was).  I used to try and have my first swim this week-end but I doubt I will this year. I don't even have my dock in yet although maybe I will get it out.  (what is it In or Out).  Back in 1979 it was sunny and cool and only 15 for the high and 1981 saw it only stretch to 8.  In 1983 It only made it to 11 and we had heavy Frost, even on the roofs of houses.  It looks like we are in for a great week-end, although not so much for Mike Duffy,  He has been dumped from the Tory Caucus and is in the P.M.'s BAD Books and if that wasn't enough he won't be able to buy his clothes from Abercrombie and Fitch anymore. :)

We start off with 1536 with the marriage of Henry the VIII and Anne Boleyn's marriage being declared invalid by basically Henry's cronies (or is that Crownies). and her 4 Phantom lovers were executed.  I don't know if you watch the Henry the VIII series on TV called "The Tudors" or not but the actress (Natalie Dormer) who played  Anne Boleyn was the villainous Moriarty on last night's finale of the TV show "Sherlock". She was my favourite on "the Tudors" and did a Great job as Sherlock's Nemesis and has been on "Game of Thrones" as well this year.

In 1620, the first Merry-Go-Round was seen at a fair in Philippapolis Turkey on this date.
In 1630, The Belts of Jupiter were 1st observed, lately they have been Suspendered.
in  1792, 24 merchants formed the New York Stock Exchange (they used a big Marble building but it kept rolling away).
In 1845 The rubber band was patented hence the expression, "why don't you put a rubber band around your neck and Snap Out of It"
1846 was the year we got to find out who had Sax-often-est, when Antoine Joseph Sax patented the Saxophone.
1876, the 7th U.S. Cavalry under Custer left Fort Lincoln.  When he met Sitting Bull and Chief Crazy Horse
at the Little Big Horn and met his Last Stand he inadvertently developed the first ARROW shirt.
In 1910 Canada set the designs for the one cent (which has now been dropped) and 50 coins. I never get 50 cent pieces anymore.  I guess you have to order them.
In 1916 the World's First Daylight Saving Act was introduced for British Summer Time.
Chiang Kai-Shek was made Supreme war Lord in Canton and of course there were great Paintings of him all over China in the ensuing years.  (Well they do have a "GREAT WALL" to hang them on).
In 1961 after the "Bay of Pigs Fiasco" Castro offered to trade American prisoners for 500 bulldozers but the U.S. apparently said "NO". Castro did agree on Food and Medical supplies later. so no John Deere Letters.
Green Acres premiered on this date in 1966.

IN 1975 Male domination of the O.P.P came to an end when 10  women began training to become Police Women.
"The CHICKEN SONG" BY Spitting Image hit  #1 in the U.K pop charts, in 1986 and by the way the ARAPAHO was spoken in the Custer last stand comments.  They were in on that battle. I actually don't remember this song. (maybe that's a good thing).

In 1992 Lawrence welk Died.  His Theme song by the way was called "Bubbles In The Wine."

that was from 1938, well before his TV show...good for a chuckle.
speaking of Champagne its' BIRTHDAY TIME.

Dennis Hopper is 77, "Sugar Ray" Leonard is 57, In 1919 David Milne (born near Paisley On. on this date)
