WEDNESDAY MAY THE 8TH, 2013

IT"S "Hump Day Dump Day" for some with garbage collection on tap today...but I hope you don't have a great fall.  I hope you have a great summer first, then a great fall.  In 1981 some spots such as Sunnidale Corners were still getting a bit of frost with Brentwood checking in with a -3 Low.  High on the day was near 10.  In 1983 we had some morning snowflurries and the Unemployment rate was way up at 12.5%. It's  lovely morning here with blue sky and a few clouds and a good day on the docket.

In 1620 Champlain sailed for Canada, this time accompanied by his wife (on piano?) Helene Boulle was the wife of Samuel at the age of twelve.  Her father was Nicolas Boulle and he was Lord Chamberlain of France he was 40 and she was only 12 which was allowable back then. ( He didn't like her Justin Bieber records either).
In 1792 The U.S. established the military draft (they sure liked to fight).
in 1823 "Home Sweet Home" was first sung in London England. The music was taken from the Opera "Clari, Miad of Milan" by John Howard Pain and the words were added by Sir Henry Bishop.  The opening lines were "mid pleasures and palaces though may we roam, Be it ever so Humble, there's no place like home"
In 1847 Robert Thompson patented the rubber tire.
In 1882, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Assiniboia and Athabaska were formed as Districts of the Northwest Territories of Canada.
In 1886, Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta sold the first coca-cola (it contained cocaine by the way)  so I guess Jacob's was the first  "Crack House".
In 1907 Canadian Tommy Burns beat Jack O'Brien for the heavyweight Boxing Title.
in 1912 Paramount Pictures was founded.
In 1921 Sweden abolished the "Death Penalty" (so they never did "Swing and Sway with Sammy Kaye).
It was VE Day in Europe in 1945 as they celebrated the previous days signing of the surrender . Churchill called it "the signal for the greatest outburst of Joy in the history of Mankind" Our Prime Minister King replaced the Union Jack (we didn't have an official flag) with the Canadian Red Ensign on our public buildings for a week.  VE Day was not the end of the war as there was still Japan to deal with.
In 1952 Mad Magazine debuted.

It was launched as a comic book before it became a satirical magazine and it became widely imitated and influential with a top circulation of 2 million during its Peak in the 1970's.  Alfred E Newman was it's FACE.

In 1963, DR. NO (the first real Bond Movie) premiered, with Sean Connery and the gorgeous Ursala UNDRESSED.

In 1984 (after a ten year Run) "Happy Days" went off the air after lots of fun with Richie Cunningham, Potsie and the FONZ (HEYYYY).  It is not to be confused with Miss Piggy (the Rich Cunning Ham).  It ended with Richie's Dad HOWARD turning to the camera with a Toast to "HAPPY DAYS".

1987 was the Year the Looney was unveiled on this date and later came the Tunie which some called the DubLooney when it first came out.

It's Birthday Peeps time:

Toni Tenille (of the Captain and Tenille) is 70 and a female member of the Beach Boys at one point, Ricky Nelson (1940-1985), Melissa Gilbert  (Little House) is 49 today, Peter Benchley (writer of Jaws) is 73, Don Rickles is 87 and still spewing sarcastic lines), Singer Bonnie Tyler is 60. Harry Truman (who was the song of a Mule trader) was born in 1884 and rose to become President,  Enrique Iglesias is 38 and Sonny Liston (1932-1971) Singer and Actor James Darren (Time Tunnel) was born in 1936.

If It's your birthday....have a great day!

and finally...

We watched 3 DVD's Back- to- Back over the week-end.  Luckily I was the one facing the TV.

mornin' everybody mornin'
