It was a big day for the Food World with Cardinal Richelieu of France creating the first table knife in 1637. It was kind of difficult before that, there wasn't much elbow room when you had to use swords to cut your bread etc. Of Course Barrie has the distinction of having the Worlds biggest Butter Knife Holder down by the Bay. It's called the Spirit Catcher.

In 1888 De Wolf Hopper first recited "Casey at the Bat"
A baseball team from the fictional town of Mudville losing by two runs with two outs in their last inning. Both the team and its fans can win "if only" they could somehow get "Mighty Casey" (Mudville's star player) up to bat. However, Casey was scheduled to be the fifth batter of the inning, and the first two batters (Cooney and Barrows) did not reach base. The next two batters (Flynn and Jimmy Blake) were perceived to be weak hitters with little chance of reaching base to allow Casey at the bat.
Surprisingly, Flynn hits a single, and Blake follows with a double (Flynn reaching third on the play). Both runners were now in scoring position and Casey represented the potential winning run. Casey is so sure of his abilities that he does not swing at the first two pitches, both strikes. On the last pitch, the overconfident Casey strikes out, ending the game and sending the crowd home unhappy.

In 1935 Lawrence of Arabia fell off his motorcycle and died 6 days later. He was born in Wales in 1888 and did great work for the allies in the World War I. He lived among the ARABS fighting the Turks, living the life of a Bedouin, a Life where he could count on the Low Rents of Arabia. Several Months after leaving the RAF he was engaged in his favourite passion- riding his motor bike at speed. He had a specially tuned bike and he crashed it at 90 Miles per hour avoiding two boys who suddenly appeared before him. He was only 47 years old and maybe should have stuck to the Humps of the Camels for the Bumps of Arabia. He had quite the sense of Humour too, here's an example: A General," I can't make out whether you are bloody bad-mannered or just half-witted" in response from T.E. Lawrence "I have the same problem sir"
