MORNIN' EVERYBODY MORNIN'.  I hope you had a good week-end. It was a glorious weather week-end with the beautiful warm sunny weather.  We had a 31 Celsius way back in 1982 on this date.  It was certainly the Hottest day of that year to that point.  It looks like we are in for another great day today so I hope you'll be able to enjoy a good portion of it. I will be stopping this blog at the end of May because it takes too much time and I do not have the time in the great weather.  Besides I just lost half of what I had done this morning so I have to almost start all over again.

Today's date seems to contain a Plethora of history information so let's get at it.
In 1536 the very interesting Henry the VIII ordered a Bible be placed in every church (right next to every ex- wives head I guess although that might not spark much interest in the Good Book.)
In 1776, a British Fleet had to relieve Quebec from an American Siege (those pesky Americans loved to fight)
In 1833 John Deere made the first Plow and said Nothing Plows like a Deere I guess.
in 1851, Dr. John Gorrie came out with something he called "a Re-Fridgeration Machine, which left a lot of people cold and Linus Yale Patented the first Yale Lock (not a university Wrestling move by the way).
1877 saw Chief Sitting Bull Fleeing to Canada after he Bludgeoned General Custer and his 7th Cavalry and created the First Arrow SHIRT.
In 1889 the big event was the official opening of the Eiffel Tower and it's still an Eye full today.
Babe Ruth hit his first Major League Home Run on this date in 1915. (I ate my first Baby Ruth in 1957)
In 1937 The Hindenburg burst into flames and crashed coming into Lakehurst New Jersey killing 36 out a total of 99 passengers and crew for the first Atlantic crossing of the season.



Apparently the audio was pieced together later from the footage and the last part was speeded up somewhat as a result which made it seem even more dramatic.  The announcer was from the famous WLS in Chicago
and his name was Herbert Morrison, who usually did live music shows. It's certainly one of the most famous pieces of audio every done. It was mimicked on an Episode of Seinfeld.

In 1941 Stalin became the Premier of the Soviet Union.
In 1954, Roger Bannister (pushed by John Landy) ran the first Sub 4 minute Mile. (3:59)
The Last episode of "I LOVE LUCY" was shown on CBS on this date in 1957.

In 1966 The Canadian Centennial Gold Coin was introduced.
1988 saw "DONUT GATE" was introduced in the NHL when New Jersey Coach Jim Schoenfeld told Referee Don Koharski to "eat another donut you fat pig" in a fit of anger over his officiating.  The Coach was suspended and Don went to the closest TIM HORTON'S.
In 1994 THE CHUNNEL opened between England and France.
and in 2010 Ash from an Icelandic Volcano started to interfere with Air travel.

Robespierre (1758) a Key figure in the Reign of Terror was born., Sigmund Freud who was not afreud of sex was born (1856-1939)., Lover Valentino (1895-1926), Orson Wells was born 98 Years ago on this date (he died in 1985, with the words ' I will buy no casket until it's time'), Singer Bob Seger is 68 today, Heart-Throb George Clooney is 52, Ex-P.M. of Britain Tony Blair is 60, Roma Downey (Touched by an Angel) is 53, Hockey's great Martin Brodeur is 41 (Hockey's all-time Winning-est Goalie) His Dad was the photographer for the Habs so he got to go to all Hab Practises and games.Tom Bergeron of Dancing with the Stars is 55.
