MONDAY MARCH 11TH, 2013

Hello folks!  here I am fumbling around on this 11th day of March, as March times on, an hour earlier instead of an hour later than I thought.  The switch to Daylight Saving Time has already started to affect me although it sure was nice to get that extra daylight hour last night reminds me of the song "What's Goin On" by Marvin Gaye. It looks like a rainy day lined up and cloud tomorrow and Wednesday, so if anyone needs to keep some kids busy inside you could always give them a few Ping Pong Balls and the hair dryer and they could play LOTTO. I hope you had a great week-end.

MAGICAL HISTORY TOUR;

1302, according to Shakespeare was Romeo and Juliet's Wedding Day after knowing each other only 14 or 15 days.  Juliet apparently had a really bodacious Balcony and Juliet liked his Sword play. Acccording to what I have heard it was not a Comedy.
It was on this date in 1835,  The York (Toronto) constabulary was set up.  Prior to that date the Magistrate of York appointed constables for one year whether they liked it or not and would be fined 75 pounds for non-compliance.  The new force had 5 full-time paid constables and a reserve of  14 Part-time special constables.  The officers would fan out and peruse the town for Cow and Horse snatchers etc.  It actually was one of the first Police forces set up.  The English system was set up,  only 6 years earlier under Sir Robert Peel in England, where they became known as "Bobbies" and  "Peelers". (Imagine Peelers looking to arrest Peelers). In Canada of course Murdoch didn't come along with the "finger Marks" till the late 1800's (with his finger Marks Etc). I love "Murdoch Mysteries" by the way.
In 1912, Quebec beat Moncton to sweep The Stanley Cup that year. It was played in 3, 20 minute periods (for the first time)....Before that they played 2 Halves of 30 minutes each.
In the year 1986, it had been 1 Million days since the traditional foundation of Rome was built.  It was started on April 21st of 723 B.C. if you would like count backward for verification.
In 1986 New York Islander Mike Bossy became the first NHL player to score 50 Goals in 9 Straight seasons.

Famous Peeps born on this date:

Lawrence Welk was born on this date in 19 hundred and a one and a two (1902) and the rest is music history. His first TV show was shown on July 2nd 1955 and the final show on April 17th of 1982 after 1065 episodes.  There were lots of great people on the show (I seem to be mired in the early years when my parents watched it with the Lennon Sisters etc,) I didn't realize that the most famous of the cast members was Lynn Anderson who was only on in 1967 and 1968 but it led to her Big Hit "Rose Garden" which put her at number one on the charts for 5 weeks in 1971.  On the Welk show she was actually the only country performer featured on National TV at the time and no doubtit  helped her career a great deal. Notice the sale sticker on the cover.  Things haven't gone nearly as well lately for her. (Warning...warning, Will Robinson) Please do not look at her Mug Shot!  Welk's show did introduce a lot of talent. He died in 1992 by the way.

Rupert Murdoch, the media mogel,  was born on this date in 1931 (not nearly as trustworthy of the Murdoch we mentioned before).
Actor John Barrowman (Doctor Who, Torchwood) was born 46 years ago.  His biggest role was Capt. Jack Harkness on TV but he's a big star on the UK stage and also led the Broadway Cast of "Sunset Boulevard".
Bobby McFerrin is 63 today, Ten-Time Grammy winning jazz vocalist and Classical Conductor, most famous for a little ditty called "Don't Worry Be Happy".
If we go way back in time, Dorothy Gish (sister to Lillian) was born (1898-1968) and Civil Rights Leader Ralph Abernathy (1926-1990).
The Sports world also has a couple of bithdays.  MLB outfield Bobby Abreu was born 39 years ago and Hockey Player Michal Handzus is 36. Bill Ezinicki (who played for the Leafs in the late 40's) was born 89 years ago today.
Is it Your birthday today...have a great one...

AND FINALLY....
