TUESDAY MARCH 12TH, 2013

"AHOY" was the word that Alexander Graham Bell use to greet people on the telephone while Thomas preferred HULLO...whichever you prefer, Welcome to our Tuesday epistle for the dozenth peg in the March peg board.  It looks like we are in for a reasonably Mild day in the county with quite a bit of rain which is really cutting into the snowfields and adding a lot of rushing water near our lakes and rivers.  It's making tough times for the Ice-fishing as well.  Be very careful. Ten years back Beausoleil Island had high and low's of +1 and -13  with gusts of wind up to 46 KPH.  Thornton had a high of +1 and a low of -7. Don't be looking for White Smoke rising from a chimney Unless it's from Rome this week-end.  I don't think it's B-B-Q weather for us yet.

OUR "MAGICAL HISTORY TOUR"

In 1789 the U.S. Post Office was set up and unfortunately has gone "Postal" too many times of late.
In 1930, Canuck Pilot Billy Barker died in a plane crash in Ottawa. He was a World War 1 ace who won the Victorian Cross for shooting down 53 enemy planes.
Quite a few things happened on this date....1933 saw the "Swastika" run up the flagpole for Germany.

1951 The comic strip "Dennis the Menace" came on-stream with Good Ol' Mr. Wilson getting the brunt of things. There was a different "Dennis the Menace" in the UK (because that strip was published before the American version was)  Dennis dresses differently and instead of Ruff the dog in the U.S. version the UK  Dog is called Gnasher.  Gnasher also wears a monacle :)

...There was also a Dennis movie or two and a TV series from 1959 to 1963.  The cast included Jay North and even Gale Gordon (of Lucy fame).
A few of the guests included Mel Blanc, Elinor Donahue (of Father Knows Best) and  baseball's Sandy Koufax.
In 1978 Bobby Hull scored his 1,000th Goal in his 1600th Game and in 1987 Penetang's Brian Orser won The World  Figure Skating championship (after 3 Silver medals). It was the first Male Championship for a Canadian since 1963 when Don McPherson won. Brian beat Brian Boitano of the U.S.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE "WHO'S WHO" AND YOU TOO

In 1795 William Lyon Mackenzie was born.  He was the first Mayor of Toronto, led a revolt against the Government in 1837, was booted out of office and fled to the U.S., before coming back and getting back into politics again.  He was a real rabble rouser or rebel rouser, but he managed to get elected to the assembly in 1851. He was the Grandfather of Prime Minister W. L. MACKENZIE KING.
1821 John Abbott, our 3rd Prime Minister was born on this day. He was only in for a short time in 1891 and was out again in 1892 .  He was born in Quebec and  the first PM to be born in Canada.
Barbara Feldon (Agent 99 in "Get Smart") was born 80 Years ago on this date.  She had already gotten Smart before getting into TV because she won the $64,000 Question from the Wm. Shakespeare category a few years earlier on the infamous TV Show. Do you remember the name of the show's Host. Something to do with this month?
MITT ROMNEY was born on this day 66 years ago, getting a 17 day head-start on me in the race of life. which I guess makes sense because he's a MITT and I'm just a HALF-MITT.
Ron Jeremy is 60 today, not the sharpest Tool in the shed but has done pretty well for himself I guess.
Singers born on this date Al Jarreau is 73, Liza Minelli is 67 and "Handy Man" James Taylor.
I guess we can also say Happy Birthday to Hawaii because it was voted in  as the 50th state of the U.S., of course some of the Senate were "Easily Swayed".
These people "take the Cake" on this 12th Day of March and and happy birthday to you if it's your birthday..

and Finally ...

Why did the spider try to find another spider....cause she was a WEB BROWSER.

Mornin Everybody....Mornin'
