In 1844 George Brown (1818-1880) published the first edition of the Toronto Globe.
Sir John A defeated Sir Wilfred in 1891 with 51.5% of the popular vote in the Federal Election. It was John A's last victory because he had suffered a stroke and he died just a few months into his term( June the 6th of 1891.}
In 1924 The Computing-Tabulating Recording Group was re-named the International Business Machines. (I.B.M.) The famous "spitfire" fighter was unveiled for the first time in 1936.
In 1980 Jay Silverheels died. He was born Harold J. Smith in May of 1919 on the 6 Nations reserve near Brantford and played Lacrosse, boxed and became an actor.He got the role of "Tonto" on the Lone Ranger TV series with Clayton Moore as "The Lone Ranger" in the late 40's and the 1950's. John Hart played the Masked man for a couple of seasons when the owners and Clayton Moore had a contract dispute. Jay Silverheels also formed the Indian Actors Workshop in 1963.
Also in 1963, Patsy Cline, Cowboy Copas and Hawkshaw Hawkins were killed in a plane crash just outside of Nashville. Patsy was one of the really great voices of the music industry and had so many great songs over her very short career. She was only 30 when she died. Aside from one of the great songs ever recorded (Crazy) what is your favourite Patsy song. This is Mine!
In 1985 Mike Bossy became the 1st NHL player to score 50 goals in 8 consecutive seasons. Gretzky and Lafleur did 6 in a row.
PEEPS CELEBRATING BIRTHDAYS
Michael Landon from Bonanza was born in 1936 and he went from "Little Horse on the Prairie (Bonanza) to Little House on the Prairie. Dean Stockwell was born the same day. Rex Harrison (1908-1990) was born as well. He had some Major hits including of course My Fair Lady. (By the way the fellow who sang "On the street where you Live" was the same fellow who played Sherlock Holmes on the Great PBS series (Jeremy Brett). The beautiful Eva Mendes is 38 today. Andy Gibb (1958-1988). Out of the 4 Gibb Brothers only 1 remains.
Samantha Eggar ( the great British actress) is 74 today. Hockeys Milt Schmidt is 95 Today (The Kraut Line for almost 15 seasons).

In 1963 Wham-O patented The Hula Hoop a toy to make your world go round. (and here I thought it was a contraceptive for Hawaiians).
